If Tuesday’s Class 2A Greater St Helens League volleyball opener is any sign, longtime statewide powers Columbia River and Ridgefield will be neck and neck this season.
Columbia River won a five-set thriller in its home gym, rallying from a 2-1 deficit before beating the Spudders 15-7 in the fifth set.
Sophia Gourley had 20 kills and 11 digs for the Rapids, who have won the past four Class 2A state championships. Addie Cameron added 10 kills and eight digs.
Ridgefield, which placed runner-up in state three of the past four years, took the second set 25-15 and the third set 25-18. Tava Whitlow had 21 digs while Piper Moog, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, had seven blocks and eight kills.
