The Grand Junction’s bomb squad was called into duty on August 27.
It was a unique call for the bomb squad, but most calls to the department are of that nature.
The August 27 incident was a “planned controlled explosion” that worried Grand Junction residents. It resulted in the bomb squad blowing up an estimated 50-year-old large quantity of dynamite.
According to Grand Junction Police Commander Sean Crocker, the department had been alerted by residents cleaning out a property.
“The homeowner found it, called the Sheriff’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Office called us and that’s exactly what we want to see people do, is call us,” Crocker said. “We’re mutual aid. There’s no cost, and we’ll come out and dispose of it properly.”
