Community members raising money for a new skate park planned at Cielo Grande have announced that they’ve applied for a state grant for recreational programs considered to be a rare find and even rarer to receive.

“We kind of knew that we needed to find grants that had no matching requirements," said Jeneva Jewel Martinez, vice chair of Roswell’s Parks and Recreation Commission, who became involved with the project early on. She is also an amateur roller derby skater. “Those grants are kind of make-believe… and they really are hard to come by.”

The Quality of Life grant began accepting applications in mid-August, with a Sept.12 submission deadline. Completing the request for this grant was a fast-paced task that required assistance from many people at City Hall.
