A busy railway line in Glasgow's east end is closed after a vehicle struck a bridge.

ScotRail confirmed that some services to Edinburgh from Glasgow Queen Street are facing disruption due to the issue in Carntyne on Wednesday (September 17) morning.

The bridge needs to be examined by engineers before the line can reopen. A timescale has not been provided.

Rail users looking to get to Edinburgh should go via Falkirk High. Meanwhile, the line to Falkirk Grahamston is also open.

Scotrail posted to X: "We've had reports of a vehicle striking a bridge at Carntyne. The bridge is a structure that requires to be examined by Network Rail before services can pass over the bridge again.

"Both lines are currently closed. Please use our app for service updates."
