Ann Arbor — Every morning when Ernest Hausmann wakes up, he feels a new sense of passion and motivation.

He’s a linebacker at Michigan and this season was voted a captain by his teammates , but Hausmann has discovered he is more than that. Much more.

Hausmann, one of 23 children in his family, was adopted from Ivukula, Uganda when he was 5 by Bob and Teresa Hausmann in Nebraska. His birth parents had contracted the AIDS virus and as the youngest child at the time, he was put up for adoption. Earlier this year, Hausmann returned to Uganda to dig wells and then created the Light Beneath the Well Foundation to provide clean drinking water in the country.
