When you walk into several of Bloomington's retail stores, you may get more than you expected. Two downtown shops offer more than books, gifts, cards, plants, handmade items, mugs and stickers — they also have drinks, specifically designed to go with the store's motif and vibe.

Owner Talia Halliday recently opened Cafe Thistle inside oak at 116 W. Sixth St., Suite 101. The plant shop's cafe counter is near the back, with a menu designed to enhance the shop's atmosphere — drinks' names include Solstice Nectar, the Green Witch, Mystic Orchard and Wildwood Root.
