GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Tropical Depression 7 has formed in the Central Atlantic.

The system is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm later Wednesday. The next name on the list is Gabrielle. From there, the system battles some dry and air high wind shear so intensification is slow until the weekend. By Sunday, the storm encounters a more favorable atmosphere and strengthens into a hurricane.

The intensity forecast for the weekend and into next week is somewhat up in the air as there is a wide spread in the data showing anywhere from a low end hurricane to a major category 3 hurricane. We are monitoring the trends and will give you the First Alert as things change.
