Newcastle United have confirmed that St James’ Park will have a slightly bigger capacity this season. The official number has moved from 52,257 to 52,264.

That’s an increase of just seven seats.

On paper, it sounds like progress. In reality, supporters see it as another missed opportunity.

For a fanbase that regularly fills every seat and joins online queues of over 100,000 for Champions League tickets, the update has landed flat.

The Magpies’ owners had raised expectations about expansion, with talk of a 65,000-seater stadium either at Leazes Park or by redeveloping the current ground.

Instead, the news has left fans scratching their heads.
