An asphalt plant in Queens is causing a major stink in surrounding neighborhoods.
"It smells like burning asphalt," said longtime Greenpoint resident Joe Cascio ahead of a community meeting Tuesday night. "I don't think we're jumping to conclusions here. We can see them, we can smell them, it doesn't take a scientist to put together."
More than 100 concerned residents packed the Polish and Slavic Center in Greenpoint and aired their frustration with the Green Asphalt plant. The facility is located just across Newtown Creek in the Blissville section of Long Island City, which is an Industrial Business Zone. Many believe the facility is responsible for a pervasive smell that seeps into homes.
