Political Violence : Ohio lawmakers are proposing a bill that would allow the death penalty for politically motivated murders. The proposal is in response the recent shootings of political commentator Charlie Kirk in Utah and Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, who was killed along with her husband and dog in June. Anna Staver reports the measure would add elected officials and politically motivated killings to Ohio’s aggravated murder statute and create a “political motivation” sentencing enhancement for other violent felonies.
