NEW YORK — For much of the second half of the season, the Mets have been searching for a pitching solution.
In Tuesday’s 8-3 win against the San Diego Padres , the Mets deployed a strategy that could be the elixir to their starting pitching woes. Instead of relying on one starter to provide length, they utilized two — Clay Holmes and Sean Manaea — in piggy-back roles to beat a team they’re chasing in the NL Wild Card standings. New York holds the last wild-card spot, four games behind San Diego.
Is this an approach the Mets plan on utilizing again the next turn in the rotation, on Sunday against the Washington Nationals ?
“Yes, but we’ve still got to talk about whether we want to go the same way ... or do we start (Manaea) because of the lineups?” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said
