Mississippi authorities are investigating two separate deaths involving men found hanging Monday, incidents that critics say underscore growing concerns about political violence and demand greater transparency. Neither case is confirmed as a lynching, officials say.

Early Monday, September 15, at about 7:05 a.m., Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a 21-year-old student at Delta State University, was found hanging from a tree near the pickleball courts on the Cleveland campus. University Police Chief Michael L. Peeler said the Bolivar County Coroner’s Office retrieved Reed’s body and that, as of now, there is no evidence of foul play.
