A notorious ex-boxer tried to bite and punch police officers after they trapped him in a dead end during a chase. ‌

Daniel Guthrie - branded a danger to the public - also launched into a tirade of homophobic and racist abuse after he was cuffed by the officers. The 43-year-old, who has previous convictions including for assaulting a man in a Boy George costume while he was dressed as a monk, was allowed to walk free from court . ‌

Despite police issuing a "do not approach" warning when he previously ignored a court order, Guthrie was again given a community-based sentence. Sheriff Mark Stewart said he was concerned by Guthrie's "entrenched" views and placed him under the supervision of social workers for 18 months. ‌
