It is regrettable that an ongoing gerrymandering arms race between states undercuts representative democracy with rigged partisan districting ( “What a national redistricting war would look like,” Aug. 25).
As long as Congress refuses to support pending federal legislation to supplant state-by-state partisan redistricting with a mandated, nonpartisan system, California is justified in countering the mid-decade partisan gerrymandering of Republican-led states such as Texas, Ohio, Indiana and Missouri and restoring redistricting fairness in California a decade from now.
