ST. CLAIR COUNTY — An off-duty St. Louis police officer was killed in a vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Malik Baker was a St. Louis police officer who worked in the 4th District.

He died in a two-vehicle crash was about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on southbound Interstate 55 in East St. Louis, said Trooper Josh Robinson of the Illinois State Police.

Baker, 28, of Collinsville, was driving a 2021 Toyota SUV southwest on I-55 near milepost 4.

Robinson said the SUV was following a 2018 Ford van pulling a trailer. Baker's SUV hit the rear of the trailer, Robinson said. Baker died at the scene.

No passenger was in either vehicle, Robinson said.
