Dave Kendall didn't necessarily teach his golf students ― there were thousands over the years ― to win championships. Rather, he taught them to set realistic expectations, and aim for those.

And those lessons were all custom-made, and often just as applicable to golf as they were to life.

"They say that people don't remember what you did or what you shot or what you said, but they remember how they made you feel, and Dave was the ultimate person for that. He made everybody feel important," said Chris Whitten, executive director of the Golf Association of Michigan. "There was never a doubt that he was only talking to you.
