Washington — Usually when Michigan State University lays an egg this time of year, dejected Spartans football fans hang their heads in embarrassment.

But the university was eggcited to send a delegation to Capitol Hill this week to accept a prestigious albeit goofily-named ovular award — the Golden Goose Award — honoring remarkable contributions to American scientific research.
