Campaigners for justice reform have spoken of their delight after MSPs finally voted to abolish Scotland's controversial not proven verdict. ‌

Jurors will no longer have three options when it comes to deciding the fate of defendants at criminal trials. ‌

Scotland was unique in the world as juries could decide to find someone guilty, not guilty, or not proven. ‌

The latter verdict has been repeatedly criticised by campaigners who claim it is confusing and gives juries a “get-out”, letting the guilty go free .

But it has now been scrapped under the Victims, Witnesses and Justice Reform Bill, which cleared its final hurdle at Holyrood today thanks to support from SNP, Green and Lib Dem MSPs.
