New video shows the tense standoff between a man who officials said was in mental distress and making threats outside of a southwest Miami-Dade grocery store before that man was shot and killed by a sergeant Tuesday night.

Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz told reporters they received a 911 call about a man waving a gun at people outside of Davis Grocery on Southwest 120th Avenue and 216th Street.

"We received a call that this individual was pointing a weapon at citizens," the sheriff said.

Hours later, Ericka Nelson, a mother of three, still finds it difficult to shake what she saw.

"Can I get a minute?" she tells NBC6 crews, overcome with emotion, as she receives a hug from a man nearby.
