The riotously beautiful fall colors that make autumn our favorite season in Upstate New York are fleeting.

The latest foliage report from I LOVE NY proves that heartbreaking truth: It’s not even officially fall, and trees in some of the Empire State’s higher elevations are already nearing their brilliant peak .

In the second fall foliage report of 2025 , released Wednesday, the state tourism bureau notes this weekend’s “most significant color changes” can be expected in the Adirondacks and Catskills .

In particular, volunteer field observers expect notable fall colors in places like Old Forge and Newcomb in the Adirondacks and Colchester and Liberty in the Catskills.
