Defense attorneys for Gonzalo Leon Jr., who is accused of fatally shooting 11-year-old Julian Guzman during a "ding dong ditch" prank in Houston last month, asked Judge Emily Detoto on Wednesday to lower Leon's $1 million bond .
Court-appointed defense attorney Gianpaulo Macerola argued in court that prosecutors had misled the judge in their request for the high bond amount when they questioned Leon's citizenship status and pointed to a 2019 arrest for a "terroristic threat" that the defense says was not made by Leon. The charge in Guadalupe County was dismissed.
Detoto did not immediately rule on the request to lower the bond for the 42-year-old Leon, who is charged with murder in Guzman's death. But she addressed Macerola's assertion that she was m
