PROVO, Utah — Prosecutors in Utah have formally charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson with seven criminal counts in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, CBS News reported .

The charges include aggravated murder, obstruction of justice and witness tampering. Officials say they will seek the death penalty, CBS also reported.

Robinson is accused of firing a single shot from a rooftop sniper position and striking Kirk in the neck while he spoke to a crowd of 3,000 students, CNN reported . Surveillance footage and forensic evidence, including DNA on the rifle, link Robinson to the scene.
