Korto Momolu , the Liberian-born fashion designer and “Project Runway” alum who calls Little Rock home, is soon headed to the University of Central Arkansas for a residency .
Starting Sept. 29, Momolu will conduct workshops with students enrolled in fashion-related classes at UCA. Her residency culminates in an Oct. 21 reception at Reynolds Performance Hall, where a new addition to the AIDS Memorial Quilt crafted by Momula will be unveiled. The 1:40 p.m. event is open to the public.
Consisting of roughly 50,000 panels — each measuring 3-by-6 feet — the AIDS Memorial Quilt is “considered the largest community arts project in history” and, if presented all at once, would stretch over 50 miles long. Started in 1987, the project celebrates the lives of those who died from HIV/AIDS.
