FRONT ROYAL – According to the most recent data available, there were 49,316 deaths by suicide in America in 2023. Suicide was the 11th leading cause of death overall in the U.S. and the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 10–34 that year, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention reported.

In an effort to raise awareness of community resources for mental health support and suicide prevention, Northwestern Community Services’ Prevention and Wellness division, the Hike Kidz Foundation and Front Royal Mayor Lori Cockrell are hosting the inaugural Hope Takes Flight event on Saturday.
