The Alberni Valley Rescue Squad (AVRS) says a hiker was airlifted from the West Coast Trail after suffering a leg injury earlier this week.
The AVRS was called to the trail on the afternoon of Sept. 15 for a report of a hiker with a “lower limb injury” who was unable to walk out of the trail on their own.
“The team was able to access the subject via hoist rescue and use the aerial platform stretcher to extract them,” said the AVRS.
The rescue team says it was helpful that the hiker called search and rescue crews while there was still daylight hours left.
“As our days get shorter, remember: if you think you need Search and Rescue, call sooner rather than later,” said the AVRS. • (Alberni Valley Rescue Squad/Facebook) • (Alberni Valley Rescue Squad/Facebook) • (Alberni Valley Rescu
