Dallas leaders are poised to advance a more than $5 billion budget for everything from police and fire services to street repair and sanitation.
The big push from city council members on Wednesday lowered the city’s tax rate further, which means cuts in other areas, including at least one library branch.
The city council signaled support for an amendment from Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson to remove the $386,000 operating budget for the Skillman / Southwestern Library Branch and use the funds to help lower the city’s tax rate.
“We’re sending the message that we would actually like to tax you as little as possible and still deliver the essential core services,” Johnson said Wednesday.
