KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Department of Environmental Conservation warned of a harmful algal bloom that is spreading throughout the Hudson River in parts of Downstate. A scientist with Riverkeeper, a group that aims to protect the Hudson River, spoke about the dangers this bloom presents and what people should look out for.

Julian Damashek, a water quality scientist with Riverkeeper said that their team first noticed the harmful algal bloom (HAB) in Kingston along the Hudson River about three weeks ago.

“As far as we know, this is probably the biggest one that we’ve seen on the Hudson River at least in living memory," said Damashek.
