LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - As the weather cools, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has begun shutting down designated swimming areas for the year.
The process involves removing the white and orange buoys that designate a lake’s swimming area. The DNR starts this process after Labor Day.
Designated swim areas are locations of shallower water (less than five feet) and have lower risks of currents and waves.
