MADISON, (WKOW) — The Madison Metropolitan School District is reevaluating its attendance boundaries as the area anticipates a significant population increase in the coming years.
With projections estimating 100,000 new residents by 2050, the district is planning for future growth.
"If you drive anywhere in Madison right now, you will see developments going up left and right, and so we need to be in front of that," Cindy Green, assistant superintendent of strategy and innovation, said.
"We want to be proactive. We want to ensure our students, our families, our schools, are prepared," Green said.
Over the next two years, MMSD will assess attendance areas to determine necessary adjustments. Schools such as Kennedy Elementary are already nearing capacity.
"Part of the work over the next
