Gov. Mike Kehoe's office on Wednesday confirmed there are "presently no plans" to utilize the National Guard to fight crime in St. Louis and the rest of Missouri.
However, the governor's office added in a statement that he "continues to keep options open to keep Missourians safe."
President Donald Trump twice in the past week has said such a deployment could soon be coming to St. Louis , most recently during a press conference Monday after he signed a memo directing the Guard and other federal personnel to Memphis.
"Governor Kehoe appreciates President Trump's efforts to clean up cities like Washington, D.C., and Memphis" and shares his goal "of creating safer, more prosperous communities," Kehoe's office said.
