RIPLEY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Jackson County has a new mobile weapon detector. It is the latest addition for their school safety program program called the “Shield Program.”
Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger said it is to “ultimately to protect the children and the staff.”
With the weapon detection system being mobile, it can be moved from one school to the next. Mellinger said this system will not just be used for schools.
“It could be at Ripley High School this morning, it could be at Ravenswood High School this afternoon, it could be back at ball game this evening, it could be at an auditorium event tomorrow. The ability to break these down and relocate them and recalibrate them in just a matter of seconds it really is a thing of beauty,” Mellinger said.
