EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Federal authorities are warning consumers about a widespread “gold bar” scam targeting people across the country.
Scammers posing as officials from agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission or the FBI claim that their targets' identities have been compromised and their money is at risk. They then instruct the victims to buy gold, silver or other precious metals to keep their money safe.
In the video above, Target 12 consumer reporter Sarah Guernelli speaks with Scott Correia, a regional manager for BankFive, about what red flags consumers should look out for.
