CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Cranston Development Plan Review Committee has given the owner of Garden City Center the green light to demolish the Newport Creamery following its closure in December 2026.
The committee approved WS Development's application Wednesday morning to raze the stand-alone restaurant and construct a 23,500-square-foot building designed for "mixed-use retail tenants."
The developer's application includes blueprints for the proposed retail building, which would consist of at least seven new storefronts.
This comes more than a month after Newport Creamery confirmed WS Development would not be renewing the restaurant's lease, which expires on December 31, 2026. The retailers that are being considered for those new storefronts have not been made public.
