TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - It appears Project Blue may have a new life.
The project, a large-scale data center for Amazon, appeared dead when the Tucson City Council voted to stop all work in August 2025. The decision was made after blowback from the community, especially about how much water and power the facility would need.
The city was going to annex the land, and Tucson Water would provide the water the facility needs to keep its components from overheating. Beale Infrastructure, which was developing the project for Amazon, was going to foot the bill for an 18-mile water line to use for cooling.
While the project was in trouble, there was still a chance of it going ahead in some shape or form. What that shape is has been coming more into focus over the last few weeks.
