LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Federal investigators are looking into a skydiving accident that left two people critically injured near Jean, Nevada, on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded around noon to reports of the two injured individuals. Both were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

"The FAA investigates the packing of the main and reserve parachutes, and the rules of flight for the pilot and aircraft. If the FAA does not find any evidence of regulatory violation, it will defer any further investigation of the accident to local law enforcement." In a statement, an FAA spokesperson said.

“This information is preliminary and subject to change,” the FAA said.
