OKLAHOMA CITY — Kashae Brown’s parents emerged from a closed boardroom with smiles on their faces.

Their daughter wiped away tears of relief.

“I’m just incredibly grateful and really excited,” Kashae told the Tulsa World on Wednesday after a 7-5 vote to grant her athletic eligibility at Muskogee. “It’s been a long journey, trying to get eligible. But I’m glad everything worked out.”

Board members overturned two previous decisions —one by staff and one by a five-member intermediate appeals panel — to deny a hardship waiver.

Wednesday’s appearance before the board was the third and final opportunity for Brown to gain eligibility.
