GRAND FORKS — UND coaches spoke during a community pep rally Wednesday in downtown Grand Forks, urging fans to support Fighting Hawks teams this fall, including this weekend's football game at the Alerus Center.

“When you guys come out and you fill the corners in (the Alerus Center), it makes it really, really hard for our opponents to be able to play well and for them to be able to execute, so that means a heck of a lot to our team,” UND football coach Eric Schmidt said of Saturday's 3 p.m. game against Valparaiso.

UND President Andrew Armacost also spoke at the Homecoming Pep Rally in Town Square, noting that the week is an exciting time to show off what students are doing and what campus looks like. The students, he said, are currently numbered at 15,818 as of the latest check.
