Viral Lubbock song highlights the high price of ‘Rushing the Jones’

LUBBOCK, Texas -- What started as a Texas Tech game-day prank has turned into a viral warning with a side of West Texas humor.

Cousins Cade Brunson and Slade Stone wrote a playful song after their roommates were arrested for running onto the field at Jones AT&T Stadium during a rain delay. A stunt fans call “rushing the Jones.” The guys borrowed one of the arrested roommate's guitars, wrote the tune in about 30 minutes and posted it to TikTok, where it’s now pushing a million views.

“It was just a normal Tech game day,” Brunson said. “We were laughing about it and thought, ‘Let’s write a song about them getting arrested.’”

The chorus quickly stuck with fans and has received tons of attention.

“They rushed the Jones. They rushed the Jones. Holy goodness, by God, they rushed the Jones.”
