SARGENT COUNTY, N.D. (Valley News Live) - A North Dakota man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a 700-pound bell from White Stone Hill Cemetery.
According to court documents, the bell was last seen in place on September 1 and was gone on September 6.
The bell was donated to the cemetery by the Luther League of the White Stone Hill Congregation in 1912.
According to the Sargent County Sheriff’s Office, the bell weighed 701 pounds and was secured to a stand with a strap and bolted down.
Court documents show that the suspect, identified as Paul Vincent, sold 450 lbs. of the bell as scrap to a metal recycling facility.
