AVONDALE, Ariz. — The Avondale Police Department is doing what it can to keep up with the city's rapid growth.

For the past nine months, the agency has been busy updating its Communication Center. Recently, the improvements have been finished, and dispatchers tell 12News it's like night and day.

"The soundproofing helps to not carry the radio traffic or call traffic, so we can focus more on what we're doing," Yaileen Figueroa said.

Figueroa has been a dispatcher with the Avondale Police Department for the last seven years. Her family members were first responders who inspired her to want to help her community. She signed up and never looked back.
