STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — The North Carolina Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling in the conviction of a woman regarding a 2018 shooting in Albemarle.

Atora Dumas, 33, was sentenced to 100 to 132 months in prison after being convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. The appeals court affirmed both convictions in a ruling filed Sept. 17.

According to court records, Dumas met with the shooting victim on May 31, 2018, at an acquaintance's home in Albemarle. When Scott arrived, a masked gunman approached, demanded money and struck Scott with a firearm.
