The Board of Education of the Los Angeles Unified School District announced on Wednesday that it voted unanimously to renew Superintendent Alberto Carvalho’s contract for another four years.
Board members said that since assuming leadership of the nation’s second-largest school system in February 2022, Carvalho has guided Los Angeles Unified through “unprecedented challenges and remarkable achievements” including the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and, more recently, wildfires that devastated Los Angeles communities.
“Recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for his transformative leadership, he is considered an expert in school finance, governance, and advancing equity and Constitutionally-guaranteed rights for all students,” the board added.
