Over the course of two years, the Diocese of Peoria will be celebrating masses in each of the 10 vicariates that make up the diocese, from Indiana on the east to the west of the Mississippi River.

“Is always an opportunity to look back and be grateful for what has already occurred and what the foundations are that we have built up the life of the church and our faith,” Tylka said. ”But it’s also an opportunity to think of the future and how we’re moving forward as a church, trying to live out the mission that Jesus gave to us to go make disciples,”

Catholic congregations and schools from the Illinois Quad Cities were also represented in the mass with a processional at the beginning of the mass, and had their logos placed next to the altar.
