UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Pitt volleyball walked into enemy territory with a goal: beat the reigning national champions.

The fifth-ranked Panthers came into the match having won seven in a row, while 13th-ranked Penn State (4-4) has struggled, including its All-American setter, Izzy Starck stepping way from the program, just less than two weeks ago.

That didn’t mean it would be easy on Wednesday. Pitt has only played one ranked road match this season against Nebraska (still No. 1) and that match resulted in a loss. The Panthers had to fight through a packed Rec Hall, screaming at the service line, boos any time they scored and an infectious energy whenever the Nittany Lions went on a run.
