BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) -A 17-year-old is facing capital murder charges in the shooting death of 82-year-old Aldorithia Burrell , who was killed while sitting on her porch nearly three weeks ago.

The suspect, whose name has not been released due to their age, is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.

Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr said the arrest came just hours before Burrell’s funeral on Saturday. He described the case as deeply upsetting and emphasized the importance of pursuing justice swiftly.

“A lady who has served her family and community, lived a long life, a pillar in the community, and her life was cut short because someone didn’t have coping skills,” Carr said. “That always pisses a community off, and it honestly pissed me off.”
