The Righetti boys water polo team opened defense of its 2024 Mountain League championship by edging San Luis Obispo 11-10 at Righetti's Rob Knight Pool in the first half of a water polo doubleheader Tuesday.
The San Luis Obispo girls beat Righetti 14-7 in the second half of the doubleheader. That game was the Righetti girls' league opener as well.
The Righetti boys won thanks in part to two dramatic first-half goals. Brixton Pankratz scored the last of his three goals in the first half on a San Luis Obispo turnover almost immediately after Tigers goal keeper Steven Bates made a save.
