OWENSBORO, Ky. (FOX 56) — When you visit Ryco Jewelers in downtown Owensboro, you're surrounded by famous people. From the outside, native son Johnny Depp glares at passers-by. A mug shot of Frank Sinatra can be seen through the window, and the cases inside appear closely guarded by the likes of Coco Chanel, Ozzy Osbourne, and Michael Jordan.
The jewelry store doubles as a gallery for artist Aaron Kizer, who didn't get serious about painting until he found himself struggling to survive at age 24.
"I didn't graduate from high school. I had a kid when I was 16, so I needed to figure something out," Kizer said. "And then my dad was diagnosed with cancer, and he didn't really have the money to pay for chemo, so I was trying to come up with ways to make money."
