TYLER, Texas (KETK)-- A Child therapist advises parents about how to navigate prevention and conversations about school threat safety.

Harmful threats to school districts nationwide and in East Texas are all too common.

"Because it's becoming so much more frequent, it's almost becoming normalized," Renew Counseling therapist Taylor Jirik said.

A Whitehouse ISD teen is now in custody for threatening a school shooting. The district said in a statement: “Please talk with your student about not creating, forwarding, or sharing threat-related content online."

Jirik said parents have to look for signs of depression and a change of behavior before a threat or act happens.
