KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - More than 30 people gathered at Pearson Park in Kinston on Wednesday evening for a prayer vigil honoring the life of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.
The vigil hosted by Lenoir County’s Republican Party entailed prayers about acts of violence in the nation, lit candles, and a song of Amazing Grace.
“Charlie Kirk wanted to bring people together whether they agreed or not,” Sean Keenan, the Lenoir County Republican Party Chairman, said. “So the intent this evening was to honor him, but not by making him the focus of this evening’s vigil, but by making the focus bringing the community together. When we start realizing each other as neighbors, seeing each other as neighbors, then it makes it more difficult to become violent with one another.”
