PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Carle Health Methodist Hospital will start training volunteers on Monday for an initiative that may help those on their deathbed.

This project, called, “No One Dies Alone,” aims to provide support to patients who lack family or friend support by having someone accompany them to sit, be present, or play music.

Carle Health Chaplain Keith Thomas, who works in the spiritual care department, said the hospital is not looking for a set number of volunteers, but rather wants empathetic people.

“We never know what that might entail,” he said. “Someone could just meet someone and be present, or someone can just share words of compassion and comfort.”

He also said there’s training next week during these dates at Carle Health Methodist Hospital.
